Tokyo’s Sonologic-Design Enhances Audio Workflows with Merging and Neumann
Sonologic-Design Studio integrates Neumann MT 48 and Merging Anubis into its multichannel audio productions
Tokyo, April 2025 – Sonologic-Design is a Tokyo-based production company that creates sound for gaming, films and various entertainment spaces. Masato Ushijima, the company’s CEO, has always sought the best audio interface to optimize extremely complex workflows.
In 2018, Masato was looking for an audio interface with monitor controlling functions when he discovered the Merging Anubis. “I was so excited with the Merging Anubis because this was exactly what I needed in terms of functionality, capability and quality”, he states. Since then, he has completed a variety of sound productions with the Anubis in place at his studio all the time.
Collaborating with Merging Technologies, Neumann made a sensational debut in 2023 with the MT 48. Several years after his discovery of Anubis, Masato was impressed again by the MT 48.
“I was thrilled by the unveiling of the MT 48 at NAMM 2023, and I knew I was going to try it out. A few months later, I was fortunate to have an opportunity with the Neumann Japan team to review the product together. It was even better than I expected it to be.”
Masato explains that the first impression of the MT 48 is its excellent usability. “MT 48 can be operated from the touch panel on the main unit, as well as from a browser screen on a PC or tablet. This is very convenient. All functions of the MT 48 can be remote controlled from any web device in the same network, simply by entering the MT 48’s IP address. It can also be quite useful at events, for example, where the mixer and two people on the side of the stage can simultaneously adjust. Moreover, the operating screen is very easy to understand.”
He also highlights that the MT 48 has advanced extensibility and a superior talkback system. “MT 48 can be connected to Dante and other LAN connections supporting AoIP, as well as USB, ADAT, S/PDIF, optical input/output, AES67, and MIDI. In addition, the talkback system is also useful. The MT 48 itself has a built-in microphone, which can be utilized to easily build a talkback system. It is very attractive to build one without the need for additional cabling.”
It also impresses him that the MT 48 has class-leading AD/DA converter with a dynamic range of 136db. “It is so powerful that you won’t need EQs on the sound coming through the MT 48. We use Neumann U 67 microphones for voice recording in our studios and it captures the sound perfectly. I believe this sound fidelity is Neumann’s consistent brand identity across the product lineup.”
With the Monitor Mission that allows the MT 48 to be compatible with multichannel audio, the audio interface supports immersive audio workflows. “I think it is wonderful that so many functions can be provided in an all-in-one package. If you are involved in sound production, this could be the best choice. Our team is truly happy with the MT 48. I really feel that this is a great product.”
